Our Story
From the depths, we rise
For 17 years, the Newark Sea Lions have been building underwater rugby in Newark: training year-round, developing players from first-timers to internationals, and competing at home and abroad.
In 2025 the club won the American National Championship at home in Newark and went on to win the Champions Cup in Berlin. In 2026 the Sea Lions won Nationals again, and are now preparing to defend their title at the Champions Cup in Berlin this November and building toward the 2027 World Championships.
Sea Lions players also won the Ascensco tournament in Villavicencio, Colombia, competing as Cachalotes. Since December 2025 they represent in Colombia as Atlantis.
In 2026 the club is focused on building an organized team with a high skill ceiling that plays smart, homegrown strategy, and on sending as many players as possible to the US National Team.
Our primary goal is to have 10 of the 15 players on the US National Team come from Newark.
