Underwater Rugby · New Haven, Connecticut
Born in Colombia, forged in Connecticut. The Makos brought underwater rugby
to New England in the 1990s and have been a force at every national tournament
since — with both men's and women's teams competing at the highest level.
Our Story
Coach Jose Bedoya arrived in East Haven, Connecticut from Colombia
in the 1990s carrying a deep love for underwater rugby — a sport he'd grown up with
in South America. He found a pool, gathered a community, and built something lasting.
Today the CT Makos are one of the most established clubs in North America —
with a tight-knit, diverse team that practices in Spanish and English,
trains athletes for CMAS World Championships, and has hosted
the USA Nationals. The sport is in their blood.
